Except for the fact that the emissions regulations they pass and enforce probably account for 25% or more of the engineering work that goes into the vehicles for sale today. Hell, OBD (which is more of a CARB thing) accounts for over 50% of the processor space on a lot of cars. That’s a lot of software engineers and

They aren’t “going after” anyone in this case so much as just clarifying the rules as they are already written. Often times the official regulations are not 100% clear, so they will release clarifying guidance at times to clear up any misunderstandings.

I think you’re reading this one incorrectly. While included in proposed regulations tied to heavy duty engines, I think the EPA’s clarification of the onroad vs nonroad engine issue is applicable to both heavy duty and light duty.

They have been cracking down on heavy duty diesel trucks for the past 9 years or so. New emissions regulations introduced in 2007 basically made any big diesel engine need a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to clean up the black smoke. If you see any recently produced on-road diesel engines billowing black smoke, than

It sucks that the only RS models they sell here anymore are based on the TT (too small) and the A7 (too large). Guess I’ll just have to add a tune and pulley to my S4 and end with and RS4 Lite... Just as fast, but disappointing engine note compared to that 4.2L.

Any vehicle that you buy these days has a Certificate of Conformity, or C0C. Part of the provisions of said CoC are that you cannot modify or tamper with the emissions control devices. Doing so makes the vehicle non-conforming and the person making the modifications guilty of tampering, which has applicable fines and

My 2012 has the same thing, though I prefer that look to the “Supercharged” badge because it looks too similar to the “S-Line” badge.

As it is, they need to buy credits to sell the Hemi.

I think it’s a mix of finding a technological solution that they can package easily in the current vehicles as well as something that doesn’t break the bank either. VW is a business and they aren’t going to want to spend $10K on each vehicle fixing them, especially with the spectre of massive fines looming over them.

Love these wheels. Had the reps on my B5 S4.

Service mode!

Had a non-direct injection 4.2 with the pre cats removed. Loved the sound of the exhaust so much that I was “that guy” revving the engine in neutral every time I was in a tunnel or under a bridge.

I just typed out something similar, submitted it, then scrolled down and say this. TIL I’m not original.

You should save this comment. I feel like there’s a great chance that you can use it again sometime soon.

Had the same thing on my S4. Was super scared until I found the tiny little pebble.

Why?!?!

They adopted the “tacked on” screen from the Mercedes CLA. No thanks. At least in the A3/S3 it retracts into the dash.

I doubt most companies will want to put the fault code information on the screen this easily. They’d much rather you come in and get scanned so they can charge you for the service.

We had a car show at my office and a guy entered his Tesla. As my friend and I walked by it he remotely popped the frunk and asked us to check out the engine. Mind you, I work at an agricultural/commercial truck engineering company, so it’s not like this place is populated by a bunch of people that don’t stuff about

Drove the Tail of the Dragon for the first time Sunday morning. Ended up following a Prius who had a quarter mile or so head start. Took me almost the whole 11 miles to catch him. Couldn’t figure out why until I got close and saw he was cutting any corner he could. Definitely not his first time up there...
