Speaking as a cert engineer for a mostly European-based manufacturer of diesel engines, there is definitely a mismatch between how Europe treats the regs versus America. They don’t treat OBD quite as seriously as we do here in America, at least in my experience.

Especially once the final financial penalty is understood. Nobody would want to pay out a tenth of what VW is going to be on the hook for, so instead they just don’t cheat.

Neutral: I would be shocked if it came out that many other manufacturers knowingly included defeat devices in their diesel offerings. It is one thing to tune a fuel map to a cycle to hit some numbers (everybody does this) but altogether a whole other thing to detect when you’re on a test cycle and run a completely

This crease/feature reminds me of F12 Berlinetta.

Something similar happened with heavy duty diesel engines at Navistar back in 2010. Going against engineering, their CEO Dan Ustian insisted that they could reach emissions limits without the use of SCR. They even went so far as to sue the EPA and to vilify SCR and DEF as carcinogenic. The company still hasn’t

Is this testing going to come out of the EPA’s budget? Or is it going to be manufacturer-run and paid for like it is on heavy duty diesel trucks currently? As much as I’m for this testing, it’s obviously not free and the EPA (and it’s budget) is a common target for one of the two major political parties in this

As a perfect follow-up to the 4.2L V8 Audi post from a year ago, you should pick one of those up and document the daily dread of starting it up and hoping to Bob Lutz (according to R&T he’s the new car God, right?) that there’s no chain rattle and CEL.

Corvette’s have as much to do with the ignition switch scandal as my S4 does with the defeat devices installed in VAG diesel engines. So since you said you are laughing at Audi fanboys over this, I assume you are laughing at Corvette fanboys over the ignition switch scandal. Just because one VAG product includes an

I’m laughing at VW and Audi fanboys right now.

Neutral: It will be interesting to see what new regulations get passed as a result of VW’s cheating. I can imagine they will implement manufacturer-finaced in use testing like they require on heavy duty diesels. May be a good time to look into founding a company to support this testing.

OK Diddy...

Has the EPA indicated that this is in fact another undisclosed AECD (aka defeat device) that utilizes steering angle and other inputs to alter the engine/aftertreatment control?

Of course they show this after I ignore my FCA employee discount and buy another S4... The Challenger is by far my favorite looking American muscle car; would love to have this.

Last night was the first I had heard of BC’s involvement with an MLM, and had I been inclined to vote for him before I would definitely have changed my mind. (Luckily his young-earth creationism and theories about homosexuality made him a no go before) I’ve known a few people who hae gotten wrapped up in MLM and gone

A guy at my company entered his in the company car show. While my buddy and I walked past, it he hit the remote frunk release and said something like “Check out the huge engine...” He thought he was being clever, but we work for a large engineering company that produces engines for on-highway trucks. Needless to say,

Nothing in here about an OBD recall?

The trick cup holder also has a tendency to get stuck if you ever spill any soda on it.

I completely agree, which is why I just traded in my ticking time(ing chain) bomb B7 for a CPO B8. I miss the sound of the V8, but I enjoy not stressing about what $1000+ repair is coming at any moment.

They can be had in B5-B7 guise if you’d like. And as someone who’s had an S4 with the 2.7T, 4.2, and 3.0T I can say the B6/B7 sounds the best. And I think the B6 was probably the best looking S4 Avant they’ve sold, at least from the rear.

I’m torn between the RS6 and RS4 Avants as my white whale, depending on whether I can convince myself that I can live without a manual.
