All that black plastic trim is a styling trick to make the vehicle look better proportioned and lower to the ground then it actually is. If you only look at the painted surfaces, it’s sort of a wagon. 

I have yet to drive an automatic car with paddle or tiptronic-type shifters that I ever cared to use. I can think of a few occasions of hill driving where I wanted the car to hold a gear where the feature was useful. Regular automatics offer this, but I can’t imagine what the shifter would look like with nine gears.

And Cadillac’s engineers were apparently quite adamant about it being “fun to drive.”
