I’m not French, but I did see Les Miserables.  It’s a fine movie, one of those cop dramas which touches upon police brutality and racism, all those popular hot-button issues which play well to the Cesar and Oscar people apparently.  It didn’t stir me like Portrait, and frankly, I wouldn’t hold most movies to that…

Those stories were definitely more subtle (and re: The Happiness Patrol, much less obvious for those not in the UK), but they also didn’t follow each other.
