That’s a good point, but I don’t know that the naval trade would have been represented anywhere other than on the boats themselves. Possibly a little bit in the port-cities, but I don’t imagine that spreading inland. Again, the Japanese people kept their borders very close and stayed very homogeneous. And all of that

Actually, I would be really curious if Japan around this time had any more diversity. I’d imagine it had less. [Amateur historian warning.] Until the open-door policy implemented by the British/Americans just before the Great War, they were a closed border country that was highly nationalistic and xenophobic. I’m not

Thank you! I am conservative, and it was really disheartening to read the article. (And the comments, but years spent on the internet has already taught me that.) The title mentions ‘conservative politics’ and then not once mentions any such politics in the article, only mentioning GamerGate and all that nonsense. In

Er, shoot, you’re totally right that it wasn’t ATB. Simple mistake on my part. X was CTB, not ATB; I thought CTB worked really well, it let them make some more difficult challenges because abusing the system became very accessible.

Ah, thanks. I haven’t played them yet, just biding my time for now.

Me too! I loved the game. It’s in my top 3 Final Fantasy’s, behind X and just barely behind VI.

They’re incredibly different, but both very good in the way that Final Fantasy is almost always good. X was my first Final Fantasy game, and I think to this day it’s my favorite.

The cynicism here is surprising. (Not you, the comments in general.) It was a very good game. I put it just below VI and well below X as my favorite FF’s of all time. The core of the story essentially works, even if the devil is lost in the details. Subject it to any serious analysis and it falls apart. But most Final

I agree with all of your criticisms, but I’ll make a quick argument for the story nonetheless. And I know your background in this, so I understand that it may just be a lost cause.

I bought it for the PC. Yeah, it’s ugly as hell. I still had a fuckin awesome time with the game. I still learned why it’s one of the greatest RPGs of all time, and almost certainly the greatest Final Fantasy of all time; no bad pixel art or GUI can ruin that.

How are the PS4 graphics? I’m not a big whore for graphics, but I do like games to look decent, and my PC definitely can’t run it well right now.

I follow them on Facebook. Not sure if they’re on other social medias. They’re on Steam as well.

Inaccurate because of book canon. ;) And, yes, there were books. They’re brilliant. Triss is a side character whose most prominent moments involve making poopies and vomit in the woods, and betraying everybody she loves. Not making a waifu war or anything, just stating how the character was written. (She also has a

There is a Redwall game coming out. Looks really cute, actually. It’s still in early development, but the devs are really open with their work, so they’re a good group to follow on social media.

Thanks, Fuck! Exactly what I was looking for. I’m amazed there’s already a modding community for it, haha. I’m hoping for more QOL things (like the ridiculous saving feature, as fun of an idea as it is).

Kinda unrelated question I haven’t seen yet: how noticeable are the differences between PC and PS4 (or Xbox, I guess)? I want to upgrade my PC at some point, but I’m more focused on expanding my book collection in the meantime. My PS4, on the other hand, is all ready to run...

Seriously, this. A McDonald’s cheeseburger is only bad if your kids are also being parented by YouTube and Netflix and Minecraft. Carrot sticks and organic chicken aren’t gonna do shit if kids aren’t actually getting out and exercising. Same for adults, heh.

(I just got back into ye olde Morrowind, where there is no compass and the average reactions from NPC’s is “fuck off, outlander.” And I’m having the time of my life. With that in mind...)

I mean, the source material isn’t even good in this case.

I imagine that’s a downside of the “free love” era which conflated intimacy with sex, whereas most of history before that had clearly demarcated the two. Of course, it doesn’t help that the current culture has oversexualized pretty much anything that can be. (Normally I just shrug and ignore, but when you start
