Thanks for the maturity.
He asked me what my definition was, not everyone else's, so I gave it.
Well the RTE is a State-Sponsored Body, so that's how they were started.
I admit that 'dead language' is a little harsh, but that's just how I feel, I know there are others who feel more passionate about it than me. I never heard of 'language attrition' before, I suppose that's how I should describe it from now on, thanks for telling me about it.
That's only about 1/48th of the population, that's a pretty small fraction.
Yes, but the Gaeltacht areas are small compared to the rest of the country.
I consider a language dead whenever less than a quarter-million speak it. I do notice that it's being modernised, but in an attempt to make it relevant again, I just feel it's a losing battle.
Yea I've been to a Gaeltacht twice growing up. They definitely do show that people are trying to keep the language alive, but I find that in this day and age it's a losing battle. Most young ones just don't care about it anymore.
Okay, but you don't represent the total population. There are very few people that are like you. I dropped Irish as soon as I had the chance, as did a majority of people in my school, we all realised there were more advantages to learning a different language.
Well yea, when those tv channels have English subtitles and all of those products and signage have English written underneath them. It's compulsory to be taught in schools and there only being 7 areas where it's the predominant language. Not even a tenth of the population speak it on a daily basis. So it does sound…
Oh sorry, I misread that. You're right. Just feel there's no point putting it in Irish when it's basically a dead language.
But so is French, doesn't make it a main language.
It isn't. Only about 100,000 people speak it as a primary language here.
The primary language here is English.
I actually just made a post over on TAY about that, maybe we can have a tournament there. I only came across it, but it's a great site.
I've tried those but I prefer my own. Maybe Double-Edge, but that seems like a big risk for little return.
I was thinking that, I was also thinking Power Whip, but I want something that will help with Fire-types and Flying-Types.
Maybe I should try Earthquake, mine just focuses on Special Attack.
Mine has Growth, Solarbeam, Sludge Bomb and I switch between Petal Dance and Leaf Storm. He has very rarely let me down.
