From what I have seen if you want to make better time on an EV road trip, sometimes a better strategy is to charger-hop by stopping at a fast charger, charging it up to 50-60% in about 20 minutes or so to keep the vehicle in the fastest part of the charging curve, then driving another 100-120 miles to the next

Yeah, I rented a Mustang convertible a few years back when taking a week off to visit my parents in northeastern Tennessee in July, and it was not as fun as I thought it would be due to the heat and humidity during they day.

Stellantis is really behind in the EV truck market, though, so I think that gives Rivian some breathing room, even with Ford and Chevy ramping up quickly. Plus with the market being the way it is now, everyone is selling everything they can build pretty much before it leaves the production line, so they don’t have to

Washington has a lot of great drives. The SR20 through the North Cascades park is a nice summer drive, and I also try to go out to the Olympic Peninsula to do a loop on 101 at least once a year (summer weekdays are the best so you can miss the weekend and holiday traffic).

I kind of interested in the RAV4 Prime when it was announced, but then they became unobtanium at MSRP in my area. I was just checking the listings on CarGurus and the USED SE trim models are over $60k.

Back during mask mandates, I would sometimes keep my mask on in the car when I was doing my weekly shopping when I was taking a short trip between stores, like driving from Target to the Fred Meyer across the street. For a really short drive like that, it just wasn’t worth the trouble of taking the mask off and

Had a Caliber for a rental once. Somehow they managed to build a vehicle that was not only sluggish to accelerate, but it also didn’t stop very well once you got going. It was not a joy to drive.

Speaking of dealer markups, I’m seeing $3k markups on Corolla Crosses.

I mean, this is on the Bolt, so it would be safe to assume the Hummer has this system or something similar:

Plus the key difference is that this vehicle most likely has a sophisticated  sensor package that will automatically slam on the brakes when a kid wanders into the road in front of it. A 2005 Subaru wagon will not do the same.

2nd Gear:

The thing is most people that are on a road trip will usually stop charging at 80% anyway. Because of the way that charging tapers dramatically at the end of a fast charge cycle, that last 80% takes a relatively long time compared to the first 80%.

The thing is “Democrat who doesn’t support single-payer healthcare and student loan forgiveness” and “Republican who commits borderline treason and wants to create a fascist dictatorship in America” is a huge difference you can’t dismiss with Both Sides are Bad.

For fresh fruits/veggies/meats I go across the street to Fred Meyer, but they have some good prices on canned/boxed/frozen stuff, especially if you throw it on a Red Card for the discount. Plus it is nice to be able to grab other household items without having to pay the grocery store markup on things like cat litter

Yeah, we have a lot of Teslas in my complex as well. They probably all charge up at work or one of the nearby Superchargers and fast chargers. With the newer vehicles with 250 miles+ range and fast charging you basically just need to be able to hit a charger about once a week or so.

Unfortunately, I live in an apartment so if I want to get an EV, I’m basically going to have to plug into the Electrify America charger at Target when I do my weekly grocery run. It would be awesome to be able to move to a house with a garage, but that’s not in the cards with current housing prices in my area.

Yeah, the $5k markup over MSRP isn’t unusual these days. My local Toyota dealership is adding that same markup (plus $1600 in dealer installed accessories) to all of their RAV4 Hybrid inventory. A Corolla Cross is $3k over MSRP.

I commuted by bus pre-pandemic to my office job in Seattle from 2016-2020 in Seattle (I mainly work from home now), and the Seattle transit infrastructure left a lot to be desired:

Could you just use this?
