The latest study I have seen says it is closer to 20k miles for the breakeven, and the numbers are assuming the national average for non-green emissions. Some place like the Pacific Northwest (where there’s a LOT of EVs) would have a lower breakeven of miles driven.

I think the big issue with using off-the-shelf platforms is that they need it to sit lower than your typical Transit Connect van so they can drive up to the mailbox and put in mail pieces without needing to get out of the vehicle. I don’t think anything off-the-shelf rides low enough.

Or at least a plug-in hybrid system so you can have one common design for both urban and rural routes.

I have read that drum brakes are making a return with EVs. Since the regen system in the motors does most of the braking, a drum brake actually work out better for when you occasionally need strong braking power.
