BOO THIS MAN

I would expect any legislation which wants to tackle social security to phase it out slowly. For example, anyone 50 and older gets the full amount, anyone 40-50 gets 80%, but doesn’t have to pay the full amount for the rest of their career, anyone under 18 gets no social security and also pays no social security, etc.

You’ll never convince me I don’t get more strikes by hurling the bowling ball as hard as I can. Never!

I cook a ton of chicken breasts sous vide, and I’ve found that the quality of the meat does matter. When I use walmart’s great value brand frozen chicken, I sometimes get inconsistent textures like that. If I use costco chicken, or a local butcher’s, I get much better results.

I couldn’t even get a quote. No estimates at all. No other industry doesn’t even provide an estimate.

That’s.... comforting?

I’ve had non life threatening surgery before. I wanted the hospital to tell me how much they would charge for a surgery before I committed to buying it. They refused to tell me with vague excuses like “it depends on what the insurance negotiates.” I would have had plenty of time to shop around if I could only get a

In large part because those costs vary depending on who is asking (a patient, an inusrance agent (and which company), the government?) To make it easy to determine the true cost of things you have to remove insurance entirely, but then most people can’t afford medical care at all.

You can’t realistically grow your own food either. Also your reference to “survival of the fittest” makes no sense. Of course we should provide healthcare to those that can’t afford it. We already do, through medicare and medicaid (just like we provide food to those who can’t get it on their own through similar

When the doctor (particularly at a hospital) orders blood tests do you crack open a phone book and start calling phlebotomists for quotes?

My point in the comparison was that shopping for a car is far easier than shopping for healthcare.

You can’t negotiate form the wrong end of a gun

Correct. It’s impossible to get a price for the cost of surgery. I’ve tried. They only send you the bill when it’s over.

I should clarify, I don’t think this Republican amendment is a good idea, nor likely to do anything except put more money in the pockets of health insurance companies. I’m also not against government-provided assistance for people in situations like what you describe.

I don’t think it’s that difficult to shop around. I know (almost literally) nothing about cars, but was still able to muddle my way through it. Same as anything else - figure out what you need, compare prices between two different providers, pick the cheaper one. Or the one with better reviews, or whatever you decide

YOU. DON’T. GET. TO. FUCKING. DECIDE. YOUR. HOSPITAL. WHEN. YOU’RE. HAVING. A. HEART. ATTACK.

I can’t handle overly greasy or overly sweet foods in the morning (AKA nearly every typical american breakfast food). Most days I eat nothing, but if I feel like eating something it’s a slice of bread/toast with butter/peanutbutter.

I’m just getting started on an exercise routine. Been at it since January.

Not sure what you mean. If you split comcast into a bunch of small companies, they would compete for turf and customers. They’d have access to all the same lines. You would have various small options instead of one big option. If the small companies refuse to compete with each other, that’s called collusion and it’s

That would be an argument we could have if ISPs were a market in the first place. What incentive do they have now to develop a new technology? They already have a death grip on all potential customers.
