First of all, note that today (Friday) is the last day to vote for our 65th edition of the Game Revue Club in ye olde Gameological group over on Steam. Our nominees are a pretty fun and varied batch: Bayonetta, Celeste, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Subnautica, and Unavowed. Come cast your vote, it’s an open group and we’d

What Have You Finished This Week?

I think I am already a few seasons behind (I never finished the one on the island) but I have to jump into this right away. Archer has its flaws but it will always be a favorite of mine because it’s such a gloriously dumb, lowbrow cartoon made by really smart people.

True, I haven’t got to Uncharted 4 yet, but it is damn well at the top of my to-do list now (although, being the way I am about games, I will almost definitely have to play the third one first).

Ah, true. SO MANY LAYERS.

There’s a lot of anachronisms, like when they ask Siri for the plural of Goliath, but it all adds up to more comedy, so I’m cool with it.

Yes, I have laughed harder at other Lonely Island stuff, but this is a major achievement. So weird, such a crazily consistent (if wildly anachronistic) exploration of an unnecessarily specific theme. Love it. As always with the Lonely Island, the parts where they interact with women and fall pathetically short of even

SHAKE FOUR HALVES OF BUTT! (Phrased weird...)

This weekend it looks like my main gaming action will be on Prison Architect because I need something “calm” to play while staying at the in-laws’ place this weekend (since my game time will probably happen while sitting at the dining room table while some kids sleep on the pull-out couch 15 feet away). So far I have

Sorry if this gets posted twice (Kinja!!!) but:
Hell no, he’s from New Jersey. Here’s his real accent (a better clip than I posted the first time anyway :)

I also have to comment that I love the character and love the actor, but the actor’s portrayal of the character left a lot to be desired. Starting with the accent, and also ending with the worst fucking pseudo-English accent of all time, OMFG (quakes in fury), but with a bit of sloppy emoting along the way. But I love

Agreed. I felt like Michael Walsh answered the MVP question as if “MVP” meant “the character most changed by the events of the series” rather than “the character who caused the most change or was otherwise ‘most valuable’ in the overall outcome.” Come on, people, initialisms have meaning!

At first I kind of thought that was just a prank (of course Tyrion is mentioned, he was the Hand to like every one of the monarchs at some point), but come to think of it, it was Sam saying it and he has no sense of humor so never mind.

I mentioned it because the rules explicitly specify the answer to that question (which, as appropriate for the tone of this thread, I no longer remember). But globally your answer is the right way to think about it.

Hey now, that’s a perfectly fine reward in itself. I mean, if you had to pick someone to be flipped off by, right?

I definitely get what you’re saying, and it’s good advice. I just haven’t played this kind of thing in decades, I was not often a DM even then (although I was pretty obsessive about collecting the books, like the monster compendium or whatever and reading the rules in excruciating detail), so it’s a matter of

Yeah, this is that. It seems pretty good but it is still a lot of information to absorb since I have to then act as the knowledgeable DM who communicates the game’s rules in bite-sized pieces to my kid (or, hopefully, kids, if his 12-year-old sister and/or various of their friends get involved).

In related news, my wife picked up a super-basic D&D “Starter Set” for my son’s birthday (it has a very simplified 30-page rule book, 5 pre-made characters, and a campaign) and he is into it but not enough to read a whole bunch of rules (which, admittedly, is some pretty abstract and dry reading for a 10-year-old), so

You’re welcome. (slays self)
