Off the top of my head Dynasty recast 4 main characters over it’s run. Dallas recast Miss Ellie when the main character got sick, but I remember that not going over well at all. This was before I was born but when Christina Crawford got sick, her MOM, Joan Crawford took over her role.

They could do tv version of Colleen McCullough’s First Man in Rome series which starts with Gaius Marius, Sulla then the life of Caesar, and it was really well written series.
