Yeah, even though she’s great in EEAAO, I don’t even really understand why she was nominated. As the article notes, Hsu was better than her in the same film. I’d’ve replaced her with Lashana Lynch and given the award to Hsu anyway.

As someone who saw Everything Everywhere on its first release with few real expectations and adored it way more than I was expecting, it’s been absolutely wild to see the movie’s real time journey from “scrappy indie underdog” to “unstoppable awards juggernaut.” Though that unfortunately has also led to a sizable

You’re absolutely full of it to think you can swap out Yeoh for another actor. How many people have the cultural cache to convincingly play both a worldwide movie star and martial arts genius? Then she has the talent to play the type of Asian immigrant woman who goes unseen. This also feels a lot like the stereotype

Beyoncé should have won album of the year for Lemonade, no question. That album was an absolute revelation, and the Grammys not honoring her for that is insane. That said, Renaissance is not at the level of Lemonade—Beyoncé won the Grammys she should have won for this more niche album (relatively speaking).

You know what, he’s right. Blonde was shit. Armas is obviously talented, but even she seemed reduced to histrionics because of the garbage material she was working with.

Wasn’t the movie thisclose to being released when the merger between HBO and Discovery happened and then the new CEO decided he wanted to use is as a tax write off? Now it’s unreleasable?

He literally looks like a John Hughes character whose running gag is he thinks his moustache makes him look cool.

She’s a fun girl. Everybody loved her, but everybody at ABC is a little disappointed in her memory, put it that way. All of us at Disney/ABC, really.” He added: “She’s a good girl.”

Ouch. Imagine the moment when you realize you were outmaneuvered by the brain trust of Florida Man and Beta Palin. That’s got to be a hard look in the mirror.

Jordan will swear he doesn’t want it up until the moment he decides to do it.

I really like this idea! I think Taylor-Johnson is an ideal choice for the role. The man has talent to spare and is super easy on the eyes.

Based solely on his performance in Bullet Train, I am on board.

I’m getting a “Marie Antoinette” vibe from the trailer, and think the wink that starts and the one that finishes are both loaded.  Neither Gerwig or Robbie are naifs, I have pretty high hopes for the punching up factor here.

Drake is a nightmare man.

It’s going to come down to her and Cate Blanchet. The latter is the front-runner, but I can see the voters giving it to Yeoh (no previous nominations) over someone who’s already won twice. (Kind of like when Adrian Brody won Best Actor--he was the only nominee to have not won before.)

My nominee predictions:

Yeah, when she says the Democrats are “catering to the fringe, she’s just telling on herself as the worst possible kind of “moderate” where she’s cool with people being “moderately” homeless and poor.

Congrats to Mike White for writing so many characters that we hope get killed off in the last episode.

Ugh. Colman is a treasure and of course Roger Deakins is one of the greatest cinematographers ever to live, but is there anything more gratingly self-congratulatory than high-concept films about “the magic of movies?” Oh wait, and it’s also another reminder that Thatcher was bad? How very timely!

Elf is one of those movies that I was not expecting much from and was totally gobsmacked at how terrific it is. To put it bluntly, Elf has a LOT of heart. They’ll still be watching and enjoying it 50 years from now.
