It’s not a bad documentary, but he deserves better. It’s 2/3 about Paul Williams, and 1/3 about the guy making the film not realizing Paul was still alive and trying to find him. And he keeps pushing subjects PW obviously doesn’t want to talk about, which supposedly brings some drama, but really just grinds the film

Who deserves a better documentary about his life. Still Alive wasn’t bad, but it could have been so much better.

This would be true if the only thing he’d ever written was “Rainbow Connection”. But taking in the whole of his oeuvre, I’m going to nominate him for sainthood.

So many. Kamasi Washington was absolutely amazing and funnier than I was expecting. GWAR still puts on an attention-grabber, even without Oderus and a schtick that’s 3 decades old. Andrew WK had us all sweaty and spent. Toad the Wet Sprocket put on a lovely, intimate performance that brought back the few fond memories

I haven’t had a chance to dig into BTBAM’s latest. Shame on me. They’re touring with Astronoid early next year. Mmmmmm...

This list and the comments are really just ways to make me miss Heller and Metal Box and *ahem* Leonard, aren’t they?

Also: Ancestors’ first album in 6 years, Suspended in Reflections absolutely slays.

Ooh, time’s running out to get caught up on the Air Bud series!

They also used the Peter Gabriel in the last episode of Scrubs (not AfterScrubs, which isn’t without merit, but never should have happened) as as JD walks out of Sacred Heart for the last time (and a bunch of flashbacks flicker across the screen).

The first time I heard the song, I was thinking “poor dude, but he sounds kind of needy”. Then the Kimbra verse came in, and I was really impressed with how Gotye was able to write a twist like that in a 3-minute pop song.

Sorry, I was just trying to sound like the youths of the day, and I thought it would be totes adorbs to throw in a “feels”. Gucci!

The most feels I’ve ever gotten from an actual hit song was from “Somebody That I Used to Know”: “You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness.” It’s incredibly simple, but as someone who’s battled depression as well as a couple rounds of unrequited “love” in my younger days, it hits close to home.

It’s more scary/funny/gothic than a true horror game, but every few Halloweens or so I play through MediEvil for the PS1. There are some pretty freaky characters, and the music is top-notch.

I work in education. We’ve screened the original Thinning 2 years in a row now. It’s become our own niche Rocky Horror, where we bring Pop Tarts and crack jokes about how the jackbooted masked enforcers are really just underpaid psychometricians. Since the whole

Meanwhile, where did all the old MST3K and new Match Game episodes go? Is it just picking on me?

The drummer for Semisonic (Jacob Schliter) wrote a book about his time with the band, and it’s one of the best music-biz books I’ve ever read. I’m not kidding at all. There’s a dearth of sex-and-drugs-and-rocknroll in the book, which is ironically (for a RockNRoll book) what makes it refreshing. Just 3 normal

Au Pairs! Wipers! Liquid Liquid! Admittedly, these are all bands I didn’t discover until the 2000s, but I was 9 in 1981; give me a break.

I grew up listening to my mom’s beat-up copy of Lady Soul (she also recently divulged that she saw a showcase featuring Aretha around 67-68, so it turns out my mom is pretty cool after all). After wearing out “Chain of Fools” and “Natural Woman”, I was turned on to the charms of “Niki Hoeky”.

The alternate mix on the What It Is! box set nearly trumps the original. Such a great performance.

The Oblongs is great (and on DVD!), and Angus Oblong is a real peach of a human (we’ve bought customized hand-lettered coffee mugs and autographed postcards and other ephemera, mainly because he’s just so nice and funny over email and we keep thinking of things to order from him).
