It's the same thing people do to George Lucas. Give everyone around him all the credit for the brilliance of Star Wars and blame Lucas for all it's worst moments. It's a reductive and contrite way of boosting an opinion to fit one's own opinions.

I was insulted by that phasing too. Seemed reductive and a way for you to boost your opinion and discredit others while using faux superiority to do so.

I always loved James and was happy to see his fandom pointed out and defended in this. James was one of the better souls in the original run of TP and the fact that he is so overwhelmingly hated amongst the fans is surely strange.
As a Twin Peaks super nerd, this premiere exceeded my expectations and was just PERFECT. James is still cool, he's always been cool .

I agree partly but Star Trek was the best science fiction tentpole adventure film of modern times. Certainly blows away the horribly contrived Force Awakens. I say let him write a film on his own and then let's judge his screenwriting talents. Actually he did Tomorrowland which I still have not seen.
