yeah for sure

We need a more rounded criminal sociopath like a gentlemanly Reggie Ledoux

It was so evident that I suspect many people thought the story wouldn't go down that road. But here we are.

Not really, it lacks the framing device (for want of a better term) with the two detectives quizzing them in the present day about the events of 1995-1996 (?)

It's true, I've never heard "scrape-job" anywhere else outside of Ellroy. It's a grim turn of phrase.

Ordinarily I'm a fan of a slow-paced story but for whatever reason I'm finding S2 a drag for the most part. Velcoro and Bezzerides are great, I'm not even that down on Woodrugh (though having recently blazed through Friday Night Lights, this could be some residual Riggins goodwill)

while this is all true, the second season has still been kinda boring

yeah, he was almost believable

Boy A is a really great film

I actually thought "Crime exists contingent on human desire" wasn't so bad, a little bit purple but it at least makes sense

disqus comments are a flat circle

is that you, mom?

indeed!

I want to smoke weed with your uncle

we get the joke version of the show's name we deserve

Poo Detective

she also dropped "scrape-job" in that same conversation, which is a classic Ellroy zinger

It was banned in NSW and ACT until 2001. I saw it on a VHS (presumably from across state lines) some time in 1996-1997.

How is The Cartel? I really liked Power Of The Dog a lot.

I read it when I was quite young, either 12 or 13, certainly before my shithead teenager phase. I don't know if I identified with Holden so much, I think it was more due to the fact it was the first 'grown-up' novel I'd read.
