Just remember, if you do anything to explain why you like this movie, you’re just as bad as the guy mansplaining The Godfather. I don’t make the rules.

Never heard of it. Is it any good?
I really don’t think that’s it. I think what derailed it was JJ’s determination to “right the wrongs of Rian Johnson”, and while I really didn’t like The Last Jedi, RoS ended up being far worse.
Carrie Fisher’s death derailed the whole thing. TFA & TLJ were very clearly setting up Leia as the emotional core of the third movie, but they never figured out how to resolve things without her.
It’s like they compared how the original trilogy was made with how the prequels were made and decided, apparently solely based on the fact that three different directors worked on the OT, that they needed to hire three completely different people to make their ST - completely ignoring how heavily involved George Lucas…
Will we ever be finished re-litigating the Star Wars sequel trilogy?
“why Lucasfilm’s plan for the trilogy was to have Abrams kick things off and then hand the reins over entirely to two completely different filmmakers”
Yep. And despite plenty of people pointing out that it seems like there was no overall plan for the trilogy, I’ve yet to hear about Kennedy or anyone else involved suggesting otherwise. It really does seem like their plan was to just let Abrams/Johnson/Trevorrow each make their own movie and the three entries were…
His arc was great from TFA to TLJ. It took a nosedive in TROS when his redemption came via deus ex hallucination of his dead father with recycled dialogue.
It’s just wild to me that there wasn’t a firm plan in place for this trilogy before setting out. Like the whole Marvel Endgame arc was clearly pretty well planned out and through some highs and lows they ended up with a fairly cohesive and very entertaining long term story but for some reason there wasn’t enough…
Fun to hear that people who were actually inside the production were as surprised as the general public that they decided to wing it with arguably the most valuable and beloved IP in entertainment.
Last Jedi set up so many possibilities, especially for Ren. They may as well have not made RoS.
It’s the only Star Wars movie/show I haven’t seen... and even now, I have no desire to watch it.
But… Paramount + Showtime was right there.
Beyoncé probably told them not to make eye contact with her fans. No one that wealthy and famous is a nice person, not anymore. No one.
The D&D episode of Community being pulled and accused of ‘blackface’ still pisses me off, especially for the reason you note in your last sentence. Fucking context and reality matter, FFS.
You know what’s one thing Taylor Swift has over Beyonce? You never hear from Taylor’s parents.
I mean its a pity Deadspin disabled all comments a year or two back, as someone could tell the excitable writer over there that he fucked up when he was rushing out his omg blackface!! piece about the chiefs fan kid (who apparently is a first nations kid as well). Turns out the little fella had red and black…
Video games are a hot-button issue these days. Discussions on the topic can get heated and controversial fast. Better to only allow comments on wholesome and unifying stuff like skin color.
lmao so now you’ve disabled comments on certain articles like the “future of video game movies” one? haha jesus christ
