I feel like this is what Horizon Zero Dawn got right in terms of combat. More than just numbers, your attacks and strategies had a real impact on enemy abilities and behavior. More RPGs need to take this approach, including stuff like Witcher.

At the start of the game you have access to maybe 2 character, then it expands to a pool of 4, then 7-8 where you choose your core 5/6 person party (with one character required for story/gameplay reasons), then you’re welcome to play as you see fit with the full roster. Why did this come out the week before finals :(

Cold Steel 1 is a great, if flawed, game. CS2 is bloody excellent and everything I could have hoped for from a sequel. Have fun!
