Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes

You Don't Miss Your Water
Is one of those songs that it is nearly impossible to ruin.

Plant has lost his high end, but, yeah, his voice is still in pretty good form on Raising Sand. And his roughness is actually a pretty good counterpoint to her unnaturally pretty voice.

@Robert Denby

Pete Townshend just made me so, well, sad, in the 1980s. I mean, it was a crap decade for a lot of his contemporaries (Lou Reed excepted), but it was his attitude towards his fans and his music that pissed me off.

@Robert Denby,

Me and The Who
I don't think I've ever loved a band at any time in my life as much as I loved The Who when I was in high school. All of that energy and intelligence and raw, raw power.

@Guinness, no, I liked that record too. I was on a road trip in LA in the mid-90s, shopping at Rockaway Records, and they were playing it. At the time, I was all into alt-country, and they had a bunch of used copies, so I snagged it. Had some pretty great songs on it, though it never quite crossed over to great for

This Week's California-Based Obscure Band
That didn't even get listed at all: 28th Day.

You know what is pretty great? The Bang Masters. I really like the off-handedness of the whole thing.

I'd totally be with the "Moondance is perfect" people, except that I really can't stand Moondance the song.

Dave. Dave. Dave.

I'll say this: I bought Boy when it came out, and fell head-over-heals with the whole package, but especially that emotive, crystalline voice and all of those guitar overdubs.

I Remember Liking This Movie
I haven't seen it in 20 years, but I loved Pryor's stand-up films so much (there may not be a funnier movie in all of movieville than "Richard Pryor: Live in Concert), that I was willing to forgive a lot of its flaws.

I swear to gods that if I detect shorter MYOFs, I will douse myself with bourbon.

Motherfucker wasn't the only forbidden word that Pryor absolutely owned.

Does wanting to be a professional rock critic count?

I disagree with your dismissal of "Band on the Run," of not being a statement of purpose.

"Band on the Run" was my favorite song when I was 12 years old.

Have I listened to it?
