I like the albums on either side of Wowee Zowee better, but I think that if you look hard enough, you can actually see them making the transition from noise band influenced by Sonic Youth, et al to two-guitar band influenced by Television, et al.

Joining The Patti Smith Fan Club
I've always been kind of hit or miss with Patti Smith. A lot of my closest friends have always worshiped her, but I resisted.

Doctor Two & Rose
They brought Rose back for that? Sigh. Hey world, it's OK to have perfectly tragic ending for a cosmic love affair.

I've got a theory
That the most recent Golden Age of Television started when Angel "went black", and ended when The Sopranos went black.

The Who by Numbers. Yeah, it's got "Squeeze Box," but it also has "How Many Friends" and "They're All in Love."

Earache My Eye
Cheech and Chong had a couple of more novelty singles that I always liked: "Black Lassie" by "Johnny Stash") and the immortal "Earache My Eye."

No Bro Code
I just gotta say, coming from a large group of friends who did a lot of, er, sleeping around when we were in our early 20's, that a fully strict application of the Bro Code as written would have meant that none of us would have remained friends.

Fair enough.

I dunno: I didn't like any Soul Asylum albums more than the aforementioned Goo Goo Dolls albums.

Freedy Johnston did a pretty cool version, too.

Good lord, since when did forming a band just to get laid become a *bad" thing?

Goo Goo Dolls
This is going to get me tossed right out of the AV Club, but the second and third Goo Goo Dolls albums — Jed and Hold Me Up — are pretty great in a raggedy (here it comes) early Replacements-y way.

Geraldine Fibbers Live
In the mid-90s I was lucky enough to see the Geraldine Fibbers at Slim's in San Francisco, just after Nels Cline joined the band, and it was absolutely amazing. Sounded a lot like Patsy Cline backed by Sonic Youth.

I Don't Think It Was A Pass, Per Se
I think that Toby got lost in his head and his feelings for Pam and got too intimate without realizing it at first.

The girl on the porno card is actually the President of Huge Tracts O' Land, the company behind most of the timeshares.

No Love for The Dictators?
The Dictators Go Girl Crazy is one of greatest dumb albums ever: a near perfect combination of metal and punk back when people were beginning to draw lines between the two. Sloppy as all fuck, too — this might have been a key early-Replacements influence, what with all of the funny lyrics

It's not so much that they're old — Tom Waits and Sonic Youth are old, but still loved by the young hipsters — it's that they had a moment of megapopularity while these people were kids.

Homer With The Toaster
I remember watching (and really liking) that adaptation of "Lathe of Heaven" when it came out.

The Guess Here
is that the worst comment you can make about, say, Brett Ratner is this one:
