I saw an Alaska plate in Hawaii last summer. I was impressed, though it was probably a member of the military, since it was near Barking Sands on Kauai. (When you transfer duty stations in the military they ship all of your stuff, including your car if you want/need it shipped.)

Totally agreed. It definitely needs to come out swinging with the next iteration. I'm just saying I think BMW knows this, and the first generation was essentially a litmus test.
It was a starting point. It also bridges the gap between hybrid and sports car. How many direct competitors does it really have? It’s in an incredibly small segment, and within that segment, it does tend to stand out, at least imho.
