The irony is checking out is illegal.

Ahem. Pro-life™ Christians.  Thank you very much

Just 1850? You might want to go back to 1776.
Heck if you include the colonies it goes back even further.

GnatB just found out they broke the law.

Oh HO! Good find.

Look upon the end results of AMERICAN capitalism. Human life is less important than money.

Like prepaid cell phones? Not to my knowledge. Our power companies are the fucking worst. Most places if you have some sort of power generator (solar panels, windmill) and you don’t use their power and can even feed power back into the grid, they still charge you.

I suspect some would argue whether or not a person on life support has insurance is irrelevant to the “pull the plug” answer, as the answer is yes either way. Some people don’t believe in keeping people on life support indefinitely.

I still remember vividly watching parts of a Republican debate taking place at the Reagan library. I don’t remember they year, but Ron Paul was asked a question regarding a patient in a coma who didn’t have insurance. Should they just pull the plug?

Sue. Call Benjamin Crump or some of those Simpson lawyers and sue like the wind blowing during a hurricane. Take every damn thing they have and more if you can get it. This is past disgusting.

They do. This family applied for it, but it hadn’t been approved.

I am ready for our national socialist uprising. Seriously. Let’s take these fucker’s money, nationalize our resources, redistribute wealth, and ensure no one goes to bed hungry, cold, or in pain. I’m done with this barely regulated capitalism.

Unfortunately my household is in a similar boat. My eldest brother is on dialysis, and had breathing issues. We are a low income household. This year we had to apply for shutoff protection with CL&P and CT Natural Gas.

It can be really difficult to move a senior in hospice care, particularly in their own home. Often, they don’t want to be moved where they have lived for many years, and they wish to die where they have their memories. They have equipment needs that have been set up in their homes—an electrically powered oxygen

Why not?.. give one REASON for the human race to exist?.. All it does is enslave/eliminate others.. (even members of its own species, and not even for good reasons like reproduction). So pull the plug and let another species take over. (they can’t do any worse than humans have done).

Welcome to the US.

Wonder if the power company actually broke the law. From quick google search, in NJ:

We don’t know the circumstances, but sometimes when a person is in delicate health, it’s hard to get them into homes that aren’t accessible. I have a relative who relies on oxygen and while she has many family members nearby, she can’t visit their homes because there are too many stairs, no bathrooms on the first

I replied with this to a similar question on the Jez article*:

This is what happens when compassion becomes a rare commodity in society...
