Back to that Reagan speech: just like in the premiere episode the "THIS IS A TRUE STORY" text drops all but the word "TRUE" to emphasize an American president's personal ideology. Fargo's Reagan says: "I've never been one to focus on life's downs" with "TRUE" lingering in the center of the frame. This episode, and

Hell, I felt Tabitha's death more than 90% of the other character deaths on this show. By the end of this episode I feel like me and this fucking goat went way back.

It's kind of awe-inspiring (and more than a little depressing) that a single well-written episode can make a character who dies within the same hour in which they appear can be more thoughtfully drawn, psychologically complex, and sympathetic than most of the characters who've survived for 5-6 seasons.

What the commenter was referring to was not just that Morgan was black and happened not to be cast as a Magical Negro - he was simply pointing out how the role of the highly-skilled sage whose sole life's purpose seems to be to impart his entire wealth of knowledge to a great white hero before dying/disappearing too

Interesting note: Morgan walks into two clearings [CLEAR-INGS, GET IT????!] in the first 10 minutes of this episode. The first clearing Morgan finds is barren and dead; he decides to turn this first clearing into a stake-fortified zombie bonfire - made to match his current tortured psyche. The second clearing Morgan

Wait hold on this is totally NOT a racist comment. "Magical Negro" is a term that was popularized by Spike-freaking-Lee in direct reference to racist portrayals of African Americans in film. Just because "Rush Limbaugh et al. have co-opted" its usage doesn't change the context in which it is used here, where it is

Yeah that's actually what I figured: Nicholas was planning to use his body as a diversion, but obviously didn't want to be ALIVE while that plan gets set into motion. Props for the AD quote. Speaking of which, maybe this is all one big lesson for Glenn. "And that's why… you don't run into blind alleys with people who

AW HELL NAW, NAW, NAW, NAW

Alex I think you're a bit off-base on this one. In the TV Club + section I commented on all the reasons why I think Glenn not only IS alive but also SHOULD come out of that situation alive. I think the soul of the show actually depends on Glenn surviving (which I elaborated on in that TV Club comment). I think what

Seriously. The only reason that plot twist exists is to end the case. What I don't think the writer of this episode realizes is that the twist implicitly validates the racial profiling practices of the retail chain.

Carrie: Saul, don't you see, don't you see the pattern?

This episode was a fucking shit show. In my opinion this was one of the worst TGW episodes ever. There were a lot of little things that bugged me throughout, but I really lost it when they revealed that the black mom did indeed shoplift the sweater. Seriously, what the fuck. One of this show's very few problems is the

Glenn is clearly not dead here. Nearly 100% certain of it. Alex and Josh are both wrong about one thing: the show telegraphs (or in this case, false-telegraphs) the possibility of Glenn's death throughout, beginning with the opening single of Glenn running. They're telling us "Hey you, look at Glenn. Something big is

The way new characters are introduced on The Knick reminds me of the thrill of greeting new members to the ensemble in Deadwood. Every time a new character drops onto the scene you - like the rest of the locals - suspect their every action, hang on every word, scrutinize every gesture. I have no idea what kind of

…but there's a shoe in that tree.

It is in the humble opinion of this narrator that strange things happen all the time.

I love how this show takes the Coen Brothers' greatest hits and shakes them up in a big Boggle container to say completely original things. Loved that "Didn't Leave Nobody but the Baby" cover at the end credits, especially since it calls back to the scene from O Brother Where Art Thou? when the sirens sing their

Seriously. Aliens. In the season premiere. Goddamn. And you know what even if they don't explicitly mention that moment for the rest of the season I might still be fine with it.

Desperate times, desperate measures.

Chris Rock as eccentric cannibal? I can deal with that. Pitbull as music artist Cookie would take seriously? Fuck this show.
