I could swear that the Sun Bear, Brown Bear, Black Bear, and Polar Bear are actually just variations on a species. Akin to sub-species more than actually genetically distinct. The source is from PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences). It is common to refer to it as P-NAS. If you like or are nuetral to the P-NAS then it is "nas", but you can tell when someone doesn't think it has as much weight as other journals. They say P-NAS as in pee-NAS. Try it a couple of times.
