I mean, the book explicitly addresses that Paul and his family plan to exploit the Fremen. He cares for them too (because humans care for those they live with), but the exploitative goals are right there in the text. It’s a deconstruction of the myth of benevolent colonialism.
The later Dune books actually kind of deconstruct the white savior aspects IIRC with Paul becoming a tyrant.

Between this and the decision not to interview Asia Argento, this feels like a very shady and shoddily made documentary. I have been told that Morgan Neville claims Ottavia refused to participate of Asia was interviewed, but I don’t even know if that is true at this point. In any case, this is all a shame an Anthony…
Not sure why she’s changing her mind; I’m told Morgan Neville has an audio recording of Ottavia giving express permission to use the AI to recreate his voice. Allow me to play it for you.
“YES. YOU. CAN. USE. HIS. VOICE.” *audible clicking sounds between each word*
First season was fantastic. A few episodes into the second season felt like they ran out of ideas already. Still looking forward to season 3.
“He isn’t so reckless as to blame her outright for his death, but there’s a palpable change in tone when she enters the narrative. And while Argento is indeed a complicated person, the fact that she does not appear in the film to defend herself—nor do any of the other interviewees defend her—results in a biased…
Well, at least she when she was 18 she didn’t attend a beauty contest that was founded by a racist person.
Really interesting lately seeing which people the AV Club condemns and which people it reserves the passive voice for.
yeah, she’s no “easy scapegoat”, she’s the prime suspect (if you imagine a world where the police investigated what drove people to suicide - I know the actual killer here is the guy in those photos)
Obviously in the end, nobody chooses suicide except the person themselves, and there was clearly a lot more to that decision for Bourdain than whatever went on in the last two years of his life.
You can never understand suicide unless you have experienced thoughts of it yourself.
Bill Murray though....
“She impulsively yelled out his name, which the Brooklynite says is uncharacteristic, and “without thinking. Like, I never do that.”
Came here for this, was not disappointed. RIP, sir. A single line you spoke will bring joy forevermore, and we will miss you.
Fun fact: He’s also in Apocalypse Now, in an uncredited blip. Here he is standing next to Scott Glenn.
“She impulsively yelled out his name, which the Brooklynite says is uncharacteristic, and “without thinking. Like, I never do that. I’m a consummate professional. I don’t even bother celebrities on the street ever.””
When are we as a society finally going to move from “Hitchcockian” to “De Palma-esque”?
