It’s not just that Shazam is fun, it’s that it’s good at fun. Super serious superhero films can work too (hi Logan!), people just need to stop being bad at making super serious superhero films.

Hey I’m a grown up. I’m just secure enough to admit I like my movies to have fun.

I went into Shazam with dread (the trailer was not promising) but it's become one of my favorite of this generation of superhero movies. It's a fun movie but it also has an enormous heart, like the first Donner Superman or the first MCU Captain America movie.

See for me it was the opposite. The DC films disappointed me too, and when I saw that Shazam was in production, I immediately got my hopes up. I figured that this is one of the few big name DC properties that couldn’t be turned into a joyless slog because the original material is so goofy and lighthearted.

Yeah, I had no expectations (not low expectations, no expectations!) walking into an advanced screening with my kids, and we were all pleasantly surprised at how much fun this movie was, especially given what we’d seen from DC prior to this. 

surprisingly well-received Shazam! from 2019.

i just can’t see any way in which disney pulls off a compelling origin story for someone who’s life goal is to skin 101 puppies and wear their skin. 

that’s the origin story of a john wick villain

I’m surprised they’re moving Black Widow back and still doing the simultaneous release. My state (Michigan) is opening up vaccines to everyone 16 and up in a week and a half. Seems like by July, most everyone who wants a vaccine will have one.

Agreed, it’s just so much more interesting to watch other types of fighting.

i did find it refreshing that Falcon didn’t just whip out a pair of uzis (or whatever) whenever he needed to take somebody down, made the action more compelling imo..although of course he’s still got his redwing drone packed with some weapons

Yeah because it’s artistic brah. It’s so different and avantgarde. He also wants to release an 8mm version with no sound and just subtitles. What a bold move yo. Are you not impressed? I wish Avengers movies were made like this... lol

I heard there will be a VHS-with-the-tracking-needing-adjustment cut.
