1) There is no requirement to have a hybrid system in LMP1, you just aren’t going to be competitive without one. No manufacturer is interested in racing without having the opportunity to win.

They won’t fade into obscurity. They’ve lost factory support and survived. They’ve raced in DTM and other series that don’t exist anymore. They will find another way to race. I’m sure Porsche wouldn’t mind if they snuggled up together again. It worked the first time around.

Another thing: Team Joest is arguably the most outstanding top-level racing team of the current generation. They were the ones who rewrote the playbook of endurance racing, and pretty much propelled the class to this level. We’re not just talking about losing Audi, we’re also talking about losing Joest Racing.

Sucks. I’ve been watching him since he was a pilot for Mercedes.
