I feel you’re giving Movie Thanos too much credit. If he had shown some of that madness, maybe. But he didn’t, you know, aside from the whole kill half of the universe thing.

Thanos’ skin, especially in the movie, is neigh-invulnerable. Iron man scratched him and only Thor with his new axe did any real damage. They couldn’t cut his arm off.
