Admittedly I was a bit flippant, but there are plenty of things they can do other than die in office. Former President Carter has been working with Houses for Humanity well into his 90s. And I’m not suggesting that they couldn’t be involved with consulting with their former colleagues in office, working to elect

Retire and enjoy the extra golden years? Like why the fuck are we trying to normalize working what (in theory at least) is a really stressful, important job up until the day you die?

I hate this reasoning. Young people don’t vote because political parties never offer anything to young people. When Generation Xers were young, they didn’t vote. When Millenials were young, they didn’t vote. Current Zoomers don’t vote. Blaming the current young generation is ignoring history.

They also think my cohorts and I are “kids” or “interns” but we’re all in our 40s.

If you’re older than 70 and you’re in charge of something important, you should be well and deeply into the process of handing authority off to the next generation. If not, WTF are you doing? Goodness knows, YOU are probably very fit and will live forever. But shit! statistically you are into the “could die at any

another reminder of the need for both term limits and age limits in all 3 branches of government, federal and state. I know this is a hopeless pipe dream in our current hyperpolarized environment where every single Democratic proposition no matter how logical or helpful is reflexively shot down by the GQP, but Cocaine

OMG at my very first job, I had two female bosses who started working before the women’s movement. They were two bitter bitches!

I think it has more to do with the universal tendency of older people to resist change and see endless fault in younger people. This was less of a problem in the past because the elderly politely died younger. At this point Feinstein and trump are perfect examples of medicine keeping the carcass moving even if

Uuugh, the last place I worked, I had one manager constantly talk to me about how he was in management by the time he was my age. Of course, he was promoted to manager with 5 years of experience. I have 15 years of experience, have to do 3 times as much work as he ever did because they’ve cut staffing, and there’s no

While we’re on the subject, Ted Cruz seems to be declining as well. Did you see him at the Supreme Court nomination hearings? Kept asking unrelated questions, hardly seemed aware of where he was or what the hearings were actually for, so confused he was angry. I think the only compassionate move would be to get him

Of course it isn’t sexist.

I was shocked she held it together as well as she did during the KBJ hearings, as she was obviously horrible during some of the recent supreme court confirmation events.

I really wish there was a mandatory retirement age for Congress at 75 or so. It’s ridiculous that we can’t get younger politicians. I also think Biden was too old and wish we’d gotten someone younger.

What does it say about the kind of people who run for, and are elected to these offices, that they can’t step aside and advise or be a resource to the younger generations. No, they have to stay in charge. They must be the ones there and everyone else isn’t capable.

I realize that these two things will NEVER happen, but we should have age limits for political offices as well as term limits. We have too many people, on both sides of the aisle, making a career out of being a Senator or Congressman. I hate it when we celebrate someone for being in office for 30 or 40 years.

SCOTUS age limits, too!

Say it with me: Age limits for all politicians as it is what’s best for the nation. While we’re at it, term limits too!

Strom Thurmond, anyone?

Yo, 32 year old progressive millennial here. Ranked choice voting, term limits, wreck lobbying, and force anyone in government to only be paid their state’s median income, along with with the same health care/benefits afforded to people of their state. You’ll start to see change really quick. Thanks. #comeatmebro

Honestly, there are easy ways that this could be addressed. Mental status exams - the type given to elderly people when trying to determine whether they are safe to continue living independently - should be administered to all members and candidates every two years, and if you score moderate impairment or worse,
