Officially, they were considered canon. There were layers of Star Wars canon, though. It was a whole thing.

There were a couple good things about the EU like how the Clone Wars were explained and Thrawn.
Matt Stover ALWAYS rose to the challenge. His SW books are universally AMAZING. Ditto Stackpole
The EU had a lot of big name authors who ended up turning in work well below their typical output.
I think they realized pretty early on that the hardcore EU-for-life types would be cranky and angry over whatever they made, regardless of what they did with it, so they opted for the solution which would provide them with the best ability to make the movies they wanted to make, which is basically to just wipe it all…
A moon dropping on Chewi may have provided a definitive reason to drop the EU, but realistically, there was no good reason to retain it for the new movies. For the majority of fans who didn’t read the side stuff, you’re saddled with trying to explain a mountain of utterly batshit exposition, and for the fans who do…
The sword was never magic. It was just a normal sword.
So it was Blade Runner?
Yeah. I rewatched GotG Vol. 2 when it popped up on Netflix. While it remains a fun movie, it’s not better than Ragnarok. Also agree that the gags with Drax and Mantis come across as mean-spirited, not funny.
I think the reason I wanted Mummy NOT to succeed is because those classic monsters should be different from superheroes, but the Dark Universe seemed determined to just turn them into superheroes.
2LOLOLOLA form of digital retardation
GotG 2 was nowhere near as fun as Thor Ragnarok. Two hours of Drax laughing at himself as he calls a beautiful woman ugly.
You might be joking, but the reason the Brendan Frasier Mummy movie worked is that it was the right blend of goofy humor, adventure, action and romance.
Needed more Abbott and/or Costello.
LOLOLOL ok
I watched Your Name for the first time over the weekend. I knew only the most minimum of details of the plot. The plot twist hit me like a truck and the rest of the movie I was a sniffling mess trying to hold back the tears. My wife is watching the movie with me and toward the climax she looks at me and this was her…
Ya might want to consider sticking “genre” movies into the title, like in prior years. This seems a bit misleading for those not familiar with the site.
But unlike the Death Star project, nobody assassinated the hyperspace tracking team.
The only explanation would be if the destruction of the Imperial base on Scarif destroyed the files, meaning the First Order had to start from scratch, but I can’t imagine the Empire wouldn’t have back-ups somewhere, right?
Near Dark is one of the best, most underrated vampire movies ever made.
