Totally agree. I would add that for the Chinese to nickname someone Sima, they’re almost certainly going to draw connotations with The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, because the Chinese make Three Kingdom references out of everything.

These are great. Sometimes last names just translate in completely random ways in Chinese, like Marcin Gortat. I’ve heard him referred to as Guo Tai or Guo Tai Tai, or “(Cooking) Pot’s Wife.” I have to assume he prefers Polish Hammer.
