Well, in a few years, whatever technology you are currently using will be outdated. Some "kid" will be called in to fix your, now aged, code. He will come here and talk about how RoR sucks and how XYZ is much better. He will rant how outdated your design is and how outdated the tools used to maintain the code are.

Yeah... you're that guy. You are so wrapped up in celebrating your awesomeness that you never really took a look outside your four walls. Here is some light reading for you that will explain your situation nicely.

PC's suck, Ruby on Rails, "pump out" applications in a day, expecting fast promotions, and think a coder should be making "real decision in the company"... you may find out that you are actually part of the problem.

Maybe you cannot relate to this article because coding for you is "taking a blank file" and applications are "something cool happens". What you describe isn't coding, it is a hobby.

Agreed. All that 2000 and forward brought us was over complex, layered systems involving multiple technologies that accomplish the EXACT thing we did with monolithic applications in th 90's.

That's cool, but wouldn't just using a horse or mule give better results, be easier to maintain in the field, and be a TON cheaper?
