Mandatory vehicle safety inspections need to be a thing. Drivers licenses shouldn't go on longer than 48 months without expiring. All drivers should need to be required to pass a driving test to renew their license every time.

Meanwhile I’d buy a three-box sedan if it was something like a Crown Vic again.
Sounds weird, but a 1995½ Kia Sportage 4x4. Couldn’t get the starter sorted so it wouldn’t heatsoak anytime it was more than 18°c outside. But that was the only thing really wrong with it. The interior was perfect, it ran fine once started, the paint was in good shape, no rust. I just got tired of push starting it…
The all-way stop: Lazy engineering for incompetent engineers. Even the MUTCD says stop signs should be a last resort, and strongly implies that if you think you need an all-way stop, that no you don’t, you more likely screwed up somewhere.
Most people who bicycle, especially outside the US, are not hobbyists. They’re people getting groceries, going to work, or headed to a social function.
What are you talking about? Americans would find a way to charge toll. I’m basing this on TXDOT ripping out the HOV lanes on I 635 and replacing them with Lexus lanes.
Chevy Impala. I’ve owned full size pickups that could turn a tighter corner, and the presence of no manual parking or manual emergency brake is not confidence inspiring.
Drag strip acceleration has been over since the moment good electric cars got cheap.
Can we just recall all vanity plates and say “you get a random number, you don’t have to like it, but you do have to put it on your car?” It’s a fucking tax stamp for something that tears up the road faster than any other mode of travel, and an identifying mark for a weapon statistically as dangerous as firearms.
I can’t think of a singular argument in favor of getting rid of manual parking brakes that doesn’t override the need to have an emergency means to stop the vehicle when the automation says no.
Quite possibly the dumbest thing about this is CCS2 is the better and more widely adopted standard all around. America is so backwater we’re probably the reason the rest of life in the universe hides from Earth.
If Tulsa Police ever find it (yeah right, they don't even know how to write a red light ticket), the 1997 C2500 long bed two door extended cab I have (but is missing because it was stolen in 2020). That thing was already sweet but modernizing it would beat the shit out of anything currently being sold.
I already have a dumb pickup, though. I just need a cheap grocery getter for when I’m not taking the bus or going camping.
“My state has bad drivers and I'm proud we kill pedestrians this way," says Rick Cavaretti.
Another way to solve this problem would be for Atlanta to enforce their own laws about cars for hire in the first place. Want to use a taxi zone? Cool, have a marked, licensed taxi. Do it anyway? Impound the car.
This is the funniest fucking thing I’ve heard all day. Fake taxi drivers complaining there’s no legal protections for them.
The point being one is a car built to last, and the other is a single-use disposable car.
I mean, given the lack of any kind of regular driver testing in this country, that kinda goes without saying for any car anywhere in America.
There's no way it should go for scrap value as a car with that kind of mileage. This is the kind of car you sell to a bunch of idiots who offer you $300 to take it off your hands so they can put a roll cage in it and race it until it explodes.
