Depends on the birth. A bad tear with lots of stitches? A hemorrhage? A ruptured uterus? A severe infection? These are all possibilities. Childbirth can be brutal.

Err...this is the standard estimated time for a decent recovery from a c-section. Which isn't to say I think that's sufficient. I had a full year of mat leave and I think it's hugely beneficial for reasons beyond recovery. But the 6 week thing has nothing to do with sex.
