The leading theory is that they didn’t know about the 5 year jump, so you’re spot on with them assuming things will just return to pre-snap times. Fits with how the episode was written and the communication wall between Marvel TV and Studios is a well-known problem. Sucks.

It does start to seem like 21st-century-blogger pettiness after a while.

It sounds like you’re watching The Expanse.

I agree with your take on the rewind. Most of the time that kind of thing drives me crazy because it’s a lazy way to write yourself out of a corner, but the use of the convention here was tragic because of the positive character growth it wiped away.

I’m three episodes in (maybe four? It was late when I stopped for the night), and I just don’t get the eye-rolling that the reviewer is doing at every possible chance. Especially with the rundown of the characters. Just a little bit of empathy and insight wipes away most of the “mysteriously” from each description

Wow - I agree that the Umbrella Academy drags a bit, but a few counterpoints:

Why are long form mysteries woven into a series seen as such a negative now? Would Twin Peaks get a C+ because they wouldn’t reveal who killed Laura Palmer by episode 3?

I feel like this happens on the AV Club a lot. Reviews will say “it was very good except the effects in one scene were slightly off. D+

So the pull quote is “an extremely entertaining show that looks great and features interesting characters”? I get that the writer doesn’t like the mystery boxes, but I’m not sure how “extremely entertaining” merits a C+.
