@Fungi from Berkeley: Science fiction really gets short shrift as far as graphic design is concerned. Just looking at the title makes me cringe. Three fonts, three colors, the "the" needlessly stuck inside the "d"... the effect is like some overweight ham of an actor, chewing the scenery.
I wonder if Vernor Vinge ever looks at that cover and sighs a little.
