The Critic, Season 2 Episode 2 "Siskel & Ebert & Jay & Alice," has LaMarche voicing Charlton Heston. Indeed, he sounds like a clench-jawed Brain.

"You bum!" was my go-to insult for a while after that one.

Yup, that's LaMarche's version of Kirk Douglas. I know he did a Heston impersonation on The Critic at least once (in a Planet of the Apes spoof), and if anything his Heston is closer to Orson "Brain" Welles than Kirk Douglas.

I saw Athens for the first time this Spring at a biologists' meeting near UGA. I didn't see much of the place, but I liked what I did see. UGA has a stunningly gorgeous campus (which I didn't expect from one of its age— I expect clearcutting and sprawl from universities that have spent centuries trying to "keep…

For all the Welles references on that show that I recognized after the fact (see above), I honestly doubt I ever would have figured out that Brain's voice was an Orson Welles impersonation. Maybe I would have connected the dots eventually based on the Critic's country goodness & green peaness. Apparently I'm not…

God, yes, the timeless references are what make a show like this work. It continues to blow my mind every time I see a classic movie and suddenly get a joke I saw on TV fifteen years ago. It blows my mind in the best possible way.
