Little packets of tissues with a business card advertising something taped to the front. Everyone carries tissues there for various reasons (they’re super conscious of germs and will wear a mask if they are feeling sick so as to not share their germs with other people). People hand them out to drum up interest in

Guys handing out tissues?

That is true. I pissed off my Japanese roommate once by suggesting he buy some deodorant when we were at the supermarket. He did kinda smell, but he was pretty normal.

Wear deodorant and don't be the smelly gaijin

The women working at Akihabara: I’ve seen happier faces running the fryer at McDonalds.

Well that was weird.

Hey I don’t have a neckbeard! I specifically shave that.

True, but Japanese prejudice is almost always funny.

I can try to help answer some of these for you. I lived there for a couple of years while teaching English.

My move was ok and largely uneventful. The company I worked for paid for my flight over and had an apartment set up for me to live in. They took my portion of the rent from my monthly checks. Other companies
