You appear to think you’re painting me into some type of corner with this slippery slope bs. You’re not.

Right to protest exists for everyone. Rights to hate speech however, are limited. As are many types of speech in the US.

The legal limitations on hate speech include written law (albeit narrowly), and precedent.

Primary. Presidential primary.

Harris should be held to account for how she chose to build her political career. There is nothing wrong with a piece that analyzes the shittiness of the criminal justice system, Harris’s choices to use that criminal justice system to further her own career, and the implications of that.

I have an extraordinarily high bar for enthusiastically supporting anyone who built their political career on the side of law enforcement, and this case illustrates why.

It’s weird that you appear to have landed on this as some kind of “gotcha” question highlighting hypocrisy. I mean, are you honestly under the impression that people who are in favor of punching Nazis (or at least viewing content of Nazis being punched) believe it should be 100 percent legal to commit assault?

Its scary that justice is more about conviction rates instead of actually getting the bottom of a crime. We really are just numbers.

Yep. Pretty simple.

Yes. Punching anyone outside of self defense (even Nazis) is considered assault. People punching Nazis know they’re breaking the law, and are ok with the possible repercussions.

And it makes that footage of Spencer getting his due that much more gratifying.

Solid piece.

“History” is something most Americans sneer at.  It’s “nerd stuff” for people not manly enough to play football.  We’re a nation of meathead goldfish.

well, it’s the sensible outgrowth of earlier policies. if the state can’t release nonviolent offenders because they need the slave labor, they CERTAINLY can’t be expected to pay for wrongful imprisonment.

It was only a matter of time before these cases started to come to light. Deaf citizens, mentally ill citizens, and homeless citizens are frequently deported by ICE or Border patrol, with the idea that they can find their way back if they are “really” Americans.

They still do. Remember the “deep state”?

Dont be silly, im sure they didnt say please

He was detained because he didnt have his US passport on him in a state where he lives? I dont ever carry my fucking passport.

“Travel documents”? ICE is doing their damnedest to make this a “papers, please” country. Why the fuck would an American citizen carry a passport inside the US?

Kidnappers.

This is horrible. He was detained because he didnt have his US passport on him in a state where he lives? I dont ever carry my fucking passport. State IDs require a SSN, which at the bare minimum means that they are here legally and the mother has proof he was born here, but they still say that he was born in Mexico

Lt me get this straight - as an American citizen of whatever colour, travelling around on your own businees, you can at any time come across a “checkpoint” and be asked for “papers” and if they are not “in order” you can be detained for an indeterminate period pending further sanctions?

Anyone who cares about civil liberties, regardless of party, should be appalled by this. I remember when Republicans used to go on and on about jack-booted federal thugs. I wonder if that’s going to matter to them when the person being targeted is brown, and when the administration is run by their newly minted messiah.
