I will grant you that she may have been 'touched' from the beginning but her driving home with Rye and compounding the error, as opposed to, say, calling the cops once home, shows the depth of her callousness.

Peggy could have easily driven Rye to the hospital or called the cops or something. She saw a hit and run as a chance to escape her boring life and that shows just how depraved she really is deep down
