The themes and emotional core are definitely present, but the majority of the appeal is still in watching a Snake Plissken lookalike kill a bunch of lookalikes of noteworthy 80s action heroes. The review kind of downplays the fact that it's a pretty fun comic.

Underuse of Sonny Chiba is possibly the most prevalent flaw in movies in general.

Yeah, that part's a lot more inexplicable. If a series suddenly starts being good then there's probably a temptation to go back and look at the previous ones and assume that quality was always there in some fashion, especially since it sounds like the creative team on the series hasn't changed much.

From Fast Five onward the series got increasingly zany and as a result became pretty great. Critics have taken notice.

The part of Bruce Lee will be played by the Tupac hologram instead.

Like most things that involve Max Landis, this would be about a thousand times better if it didn't involve Max Landis. Still has some fun stuff though. I'm a big fan of the John Cena and Undertaker parts.

Yeah, Livewire and Faith have both definitely proven themselves to be big deals in the Valiant universe. I think it would have been neat if some of the big characters had been made female and/or there had been female-led launch titles, even if it makes sense that they didn't do that.

Before he was the Legend Killer, he was the Black Scorpion. Also, he somehow had the body of Ole Anderson when he was 10 years old.

That's pretty fair, but I still really liked what he did with Blue Superman. I also liked Zauriel a whole lot, even though I get the impression that Grant never viewed him as much more than a cheap Hawkman substitute. I don't think I would have liked it as much if it had Hawkman instead of Zauriel. I also kind of

On the character side, it does seem like they're in a bit of a tough position since the original Valiant line didn't really have any popular female characters at all. It looks like the only woman-led title they had was Trinity Angels, which I guess was some sort of porn parody thing? Making the Geomancer and Doctor

Seems like a lot of people like that one a lot. I've never read it myself. Come to think of it, the only Wonder Woman stories I've read have been things I've sought out because the writers wrote other things that I liked. Maybe I should delve into Wonder Woman at some point.

I don't really know that. I only know that Wonder Woman spent about half of Grant's run being dead. During that time she was replaced by her mother, who was just written as exactly the same character. She really never does much in Morrison's JLA, possibly because of her getting substituted with her mother and back

I know I'm in the minority in this, but I think the Electric Superman stuff actually works really well in Morrison's JLA run. He spends some of the early arcs being insecure over whether he can live up to his reputation as the greatest hero on the planet, and then he has a lot of his powers taken away or severely

Archer and Armstrong is probably the one I'd recommend if you want to limit your reading list. It has lots of really fun ideas and a good dynamic between the main characters.

I really haven't been a wrestling fan very long, so I'm still feeling out the world of online wrestling coverage myself. If anyone else has a good answer to this question then I would also like to know.

Sting vs. Undertaker would just be kind of depressing no matter what at this point though. Even if it was good (which it probably wouldn't be) it would still be kind of sad that they didn't do it a decade earlier when it might have meant something. Sting vs. Undertaker would be worth it just to see a feud carried

I think you could say that even though The Guest itself is not a horror movie, Maika Monroe still gives a horror-movie performance. She pretty much plays the Final Girl from start to finish even while the other characters around her are doing more actiony or thrillery stuff.

Personally I was kind of hoping that Sting would insist on making his match with HHH a tag match because of this cool guy he met named Seth Rollins who would be a great tag partner, just to make him even more oblivious. After all, Seth Rollins would never ever betray a tag team partner to the Authority.

I'd recommend checking out these articles too. Brandon Stroud does some pretty good coverage of RAW and NXT.

If the AV Club starts covering shows like NXT and Lucha Underground then I'm going to be really happy. It's too bad there's basically no chance that I'll ever want to watch RAW.
