Thank God/Goodness I Fart can make a certain degree of sense. You might not be thankful for any specific act of flatulence but still be thankful that you can expel those gases instead of living with the various horrible consequences that would come with never farting.

I miss Threshold. Wait, no I don't.

I think the most fundamental problem with "A View From The Gallery" is that your Rosencrantz and Guildenstern sorts of things need to have at least some willingness to poke fun at the main storyline in order to work, and JMS would never ever poke fun at his own creation. Instead we get things like "That romance

I can't get over how much Sailor Moon's hair looks like the Flying Spaghetti Monster in that picture.

Are secret identities as much of a thing in Japanese superhero stories as they are in American ones? I've been watching Kamen Rider shows lately and it seems like a lot of them will just henshin out in the open with no consideration of hiding their identities, and it just doesn't really seem to be an issue.

I'd argue that episode four (The Thing in the Pit) is the first good episode and it transitions fairly quickly to being really good after that. After the fight with Theokoles at the end of episode five it's pretty consistently high quality.

I'm pretty much with you on Ennis. I think that where he really excels is in writing friendships, but his comics really fall apart for me when he tries too hard to be gross and edgy. The core trio of Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy is really where Preacher works for me, and when he's kept on more of a leash that sort of

I guess since I read it all as part of the omnibus I didn't really differentiate between the X-Force and X-Statix portions of the run, so I'm curious what changed for you between them. Was it just a matter of not liking Dead Girl and Venus Dee Milo as much as U-Go Girl and Spike, or did you find there to be a more

I finished reading my X-Statix Omnibus, and it was pretty great from start to finish. The story arcs I read this week included the Henrietta story, X-Statix vs. Avengers, and the Dead Girl miniseries.

To be fair, mentioning Bob Kane in any way other than to say "Fuck Bob Kane" is probably more respect than the guy deserves.

High Crimes was my only new comic of the week. It was great as usual, though the release schedule makes it slightly difficult to stay in a High Crimes state of mind. I suspect it will read better once it's all done.

I should note that I'm pretty sure none of this applies to the new Rucka series. Instead the new series is about how happy and awesome Cyclops can be when he's liberated from all that angst and responsibility and goes off to hang out with his space pirate dad.

I think the thing that really distinguishes Cyclops from other leader-ish superheroes is that he's constantly plagued with angst and guilt and doubt over all the things he does, plus he has no idea how to manage his personal life. The fact that he can pull it together when he has to despite being a giant trainwreck

At this point it appears as though Marvel will be giving separate movies to each random piece of furniture in Iron Man's house before they give a starring role to a female character.

I really appreciate your replies, both to my dumb opinions and to the various other people here. My curiosity about speedrunning has always exceeded my actual knowledge, so reading your insights has been pretty enlightening.

I know that the all-level speedruns are a thing, but it seems like that's always treated as a special bonus challenge rather than the proper way to speedrun the game. I guess my feeling is that speedruns which use warp zones shouldn't be considered speedruns at all. I'm probably being unfair by thinking that though.

Those Mario speedruns that use warp zones always felt kind of dubious to me. Since warp zones are essentially an NES substitute for being able to save your game, it feels equivalent to "speedrunning" Mega Man by inputting a save code to go straight to Wily's fortress. Am I completely wrong about that? It seems
