I hated Rush most of high school (mid-80s), mostly just to piss off my Rush fanatic buddies. Then I met another dude who was a Rush fan and he explained that I actually LOVED Rush, but didn't know it yet. Dude was right.

Holy shit. That is the PERFECT way to describe it. "It was just Hillbilly Sisterdiddle the whole time!"

That's because the supernatural promises were never fulfilled. The King in Yellow was just window dressing that sold the series (to HBO and to us) only to be abandoned until all we were left with Hillbilly Sisterdiddle's Maze Hunt. Nic even says it in the interview.
