1. Everyone who suggested I start watching The Wire last week—thank you. I am a woman obsessed now. I’m about halfway through season one, and I can’t get enough. I love that there are no clear heroes, that even the people you love fuck up spectacularly, and that the people you can’t stand or don’t care about when

I haven’t smoked since Sept 24!!!!!!!!!!! And I’ve started running again and wow, I can breathe. Sometimes I take a deep breath and I’m genuinely surprised how good it feels and that I don’t start coughing like crazy. Amazing.

Cold War. Not Civil War. It’s a Cold War phrase. The democracies of the world collectively referred to themselves as “the Free World” during the Cold War, in opposition to the Communist countries. Free vote, free press, free speech, free religion, etc. It’s arrogance, yeah, but not exclusively American.

LOTS of people experience depression after their weddings, even if they went perfectly. It’s the end of a long crazy exciting ramp up to one single day. I don’t know what it’s like to experience what you are going through, but as long as you married the right person, everything else is just trimming.

You may disagree with the term- I only use it ironically, myself- but the phrase “Leader of the Free World” refers to the POTUS. Has for almost seventy years. It’s a Cold War relic. Mark didn’t make it up, it’s not bad journalism, and there’s no need to be a crank.

Ryan Gosling and Nic Offerman in the same movie? Definitely worth watching.

A few years ago they had lenticular posters to help victims of child abuse. From the view point of an adult they looked like normal posters, but from the lower view of a child they revealed additional information just for them.

One like = 1 prayer

I just saw a pink breast cancer cement truck this morning. Oh, fuck the fuck off already with that shit. Seriously.

Yeah, seeing it on Facebook seemed strange. And why would survivors also put the dot on their hands? That’s confusing the message. I wish it were a good idea. There needs to be better solutions and our legal system fails victims constantly. It’s heartbreaking.

Totally! Awareness is so important.

God. EVERYTHING is for “support,” even when that support literally does nothing.

UGHHHH. I hate all this “I’m doing X to raise awareness for Y”. The purple fingernails, the wearing green, the drawing & writing on oneself, none of it DOES anything. It reminds me of the whole Kony thing a few years back, when suddenly everyone on Facebook had posted a status that was ostensibly supposed to somehow

Facebook or any social media “campaigns” are FUCKING STUPID.

Oh exactly! Like I know there's hotlines and shelters and all that but a lot of abuse victims can't even take advantage of those things because they are so controlled by their abusers. It's so sad and I'm at a loss too. I wish so bad there was a way for this to work and I hope someone can come up with SOMETHING

It’s a great idea, but how to spread the message without informing abusers?

And all I could think of was the Curse of the Black Spot episode of Doctor Who. :\

Agreed... when I first saw it, that was my first thought as well. As campaign of awareness? Great! As a tactic for victims to help themselves.... not so good

Yeah, and the campaign was also telling people to put a black dot on their hand to “show support.” So I’m not sure how anybody was supposed to tell the difference between true abuse victims and supporters, even if they were aware of what the black dot meant.

This is exactly why I didn’t repost the bloody thing. ‘Yes, let’s make sure all abusers around the world know exactly what it means.’
