I have always thought that these beautiful women in Mellencamp’s life were there in spite of his looks or demenor.

Had the same thought. A guy killed his wife around here a few years back “for the insurance,” and of course the intentional nature of the woman’s death made the payout moot. Either way, those poor kids now have no mother or father.

I STILL call some other adults Mr. and Mrs., especially if they are much older than me. I say yes sir and yes mam too. It is a Southern thing.

Probably made them use the Ms. & Mr. as they got older to reinforce that they were not equals, and needed to respect the teachers. Don’t want teens to be overly familiar with teachers. Odd things can happen.

I think it is like another commenter said: actors are incredibly insecure and sometimes like to insert themselves into drama, kind of like Brian Williams. It is pretty crazy though.

But to what end? Did it land him jobs, bring him money? I would think “milking” something would have a point to it.

There are a group of families in this area who have all intermarried for a hundred years, and there is now a rare disease that has killed a few of the recent offspring. It is sad, and you are right.
