Although her bravery was admirable, Rhaenys’s sacrifice was stupid. After Aegon and Sunfyre went down, she had absolutely no reason to stick around. Vhegar and Aemond were distracted, Rook’s Rest was a lost cause, and she already did tremendous damage to the enemy, literally crippling (and possibly killing) the Usurper

In the books the trap includes both Aegon and Aemond waiting in the forest with their dragons, not Aegon showing up unexpected. Targaryen kings and queens are sort of expected to fly into battle and Aegon and Aemond expected Rhaenyra would show up herself. Corlys ends up being furious with Rhaenyra for not going

I love how every time they show Vhagar taking flight, it’s like a kaiju monster rather than “just” a dragon. Makes me hope they actually do show the Cannibal at some point when they finally get to the feral dragons, since he’s supposed to be at least as big.

I mean at the end of the day its a minor detail that made me go ehhhh.  Doesn't really effect my opinion of the show or episode, which frankly I think is an upgrade over season 1 and was a very fine episode indeed.

Setting aside that the Targs are, essentially, Martin’s homage to Moorcock’s Melniboneans, specifically Elric, with their albino-esque coloring, alien and depraved (by Westerosi standards) culture, subjugation of the younger kingdoms and dragons, IIRC the conquest was a necessity more than a choice. The doom of

I got the sense that Vhagar enjoys it... and while that could just be the psychic bond she now shares with Aemond, one could argue Aemond was allowed to bond with her because she was already predisposed to violence (being one of the 3 dragons who helped the OG Aegon to conquer Westeros).

I still think you’re overthinking it and I purposefully said he included it to have a bit of fun and not he was including it as a joke for everyone. It’s his series, if he (and some of his readers) got a bit of amusement from naming some of the more minor characters after Muppets or Stooges, who really cares beyond

His Valyrian steel armour kept him from burning to death and Sunfyre shielded him with her own body as they fell (and didn’t quite die, BTW). Aegon still isn’t in great shape or have a high life expectancy, though.

Her inevitable death is not in vain, though; her dragon explodes on impact with the ground, wiping out almost the entirety of Criston’s ill gotten army.

Those poor dragons. All that crying and shrieking as they’re forced to fight, terrible. Dragons should be free and loved.

I came to say this pretty much verbatim.

I think that the “eighty years of peace” only refers to Westeros itself. Shit was pretty much constantly going down in the Stepstones/East, and as we saw in Season One the dragons were very much active there.

What other Tullys are there?  Kermit Tully?  Fozzy Tully?  Bunsen Tully?  Beaker Tully?  Rolfe Tully?  Scooter Tully?  Miss Piggy Tully? Cookie Monster Tully?  Big Bird Tully?  Sam The Eagle Tully?

I wonder if she knows that Cole and Rhaenyra had their own regrettable night of passion once upon a time.”

Now, anyone who’s read Fire & Blood will already know that this oh-so-astute healer plays an important role in events to come.

Yeah the show wasn’t correct. I could be wrong but I think Vhaegar is the only dragon who has seen prior war*, which is part of the built-in danger of someone like Aemond riding her. But I’m somewhat sure Meleys and Rhaenys never fought before.

I don’t think the reasoning is anything other than GRRM having a bit of fun while naming a few of hundreds, if not thousands, of characters in his books and lore.

I’m really not sure why people still insist that Alicent should have heard her dying husband say their son’s name and the word “prince” and assume he was talking about his ancestor. Alicent didn’t know the story, and the “grammar” of the show was that it was Viserys’ failure by keeping things from his wife. We were

Dammit, I thought a new season of IASIP was dropping.

I strongly agree with the sentiment of your comment.
