For me, the problem with CK is that he was once so good at commenting about race, sexism and homophobia. Since then, we’ve learned that was a pose to inure himself from his history of abuse. If what I found most engaging about him was fake, I don’t think there’s a way I could enjoy his work in the future without…
Oh those poor menz who had their lives ruined by #metoo! It has really gone so far! Those mean women, when can they learn to forgive? It is so unfair that he is being tried at the court of public opinion. He is truly a hero rising above the difficult times he has had to endure!
I go back and forth on her comedy. She’s an excellent story teller, but the times where she’s being incendiary just to get attention turns me off. It’s things like this statement that bring me back on her side of the fence.
God, that was such a good thread. Many things resonated with me but especially this:
Yeah... started as a semi-hate read, ended with “she’s not wrong.”
Yeah but to be fair, Griffin disrespected Donald Trump, one of the most popular and well regarded figures in American history. She crossed an unforgivable line, and in an industry as staid and refined as comedy I’m not sure that there’s a comeback for that. Louis CK’s indiscretions took place in private, and arguably…
Consequences. That is the only thing that matters in cases like these.
Louis and all those who protected him have to face negative consequences or they’ll just go back to the way they were.
If I had been in the audience at the Comedy Celler, Louis would not have been able to do a set. I would have interrupted him and…
Kathy Griffin can be problematic, but she is spot on about this.
I think the guy has a right to perform, but it shouldn’t have been this way where the audience didn’t get a chance to decide if they want to see him or not.
The owner should not have sprung him on people. Let him put out a show people have to pay for and see if people are willing to pay to see him.
I like Kathy Griffin much more when she’s being serious than when she’s being funny. For whatever reason, I don’t dig her comedy or her work in general.
honest to fucking god, i don’t think there’s anything more fragile on this planet than the male ego.
I was thinking the same thing. I have a love / hate relationship with Kathy Griffin - mostly I dislike her comedy. But then she will do something like she did today. She will stick her neck out and tells the truth even though stating the truth will have a huge negative impact on her.
I was a big fan of Louie before news of his misconduct surfaced. In part, that was because he seemed to have a pretty deep and nuanced understanding of how women are victimized by men. I was obviously disappointed when I learned of his behavior, but I am even more disappointed by his response.
I’m not hearing any lies.
One thing that also really bothers me about LCK, other than the actual sexual violations of course, is his constant, decades-long lying. Over and over and over again in interview after interview, he said he didn’t do anything. He called his victims liars. Then as he gained fame and influence he was able to demand that…
Simple solution:
Kathy’s been speaking out about this forever. Check out the last few minutes of this promo interview from 2 years ago, at 42:50-end. (Really, when you have time watch the whole thing: she and Liza Minnelli being trapped in a moving golf cart by Donald Trump is one for the ages)
Kathy, don’t make me love you.
