I wasn't really sure, at first. The halting phrasing was getting to me. But then it picked up and I liked it a little better. I do think her voice is very well-suited to it, but I wish it weren't slowed down.

I agree it was a dumb, insensitive—one might even say mean-spirited—question (par for the course for Joan Rivers), but he had the option to decline or give a classier answer, and decided to be insulting instead.

That seems like the way to go. Some women don't mind "we're pregnant", and some do. *shrug*

Actually, "I'm building a house" *is* kind of annoying if you're not actually building it (I would say "I'm having a house built"). But I tend to be a stickler for accuracy, so your mileage may vary.
