My mom (1953) drove an automatic for the first time 2 years ago. She didn’t know what to do with her left foot, so she started left foot braking. It wasn’t very... smooth. She (and her passengers) was very glad when she was back in a manual again.

I had to take our babysitter home recently. She’s just old enough to get a learner’s permit. When she got in my car and saw me shifting gears, she asked about driving a manual. Here is her response after I told her the basics:
