There’s a significant gap in modern cars between the hood and the engine so this is a non-issue. Also hoods are made of quite soft metal and deform quite easily, again for unfortunate pedestrian safety as well as to act as a crumple zone.

No that system is amazing, specially because by slowing the hood to deform and absorb energy your Reducing the pedestrians delta V thereby reducing injuries you’re also lowering the possibility of the pedestrian being catapulted forward off of the car and if you look at the shape of the airbag it extends up the A pilla…
