Richie being queer isn’t “new information”. I know not everyone has read the book and a lot of it is subtext but it is pretty clear, particularly in (spoilers!) the part where they have to leave Eddie behind. I had a lot of gripes with the first one as an adaptation and I’m sure I will with part two as well, but at

Natalie Portman has actually spoken about how she felt she had to cultivate a mature, no nonsense persona to protect herself from the immensely dehumanising sexualisation of her as a child star. The first fan letter she ever received was a grown man’s rape fantasy about her, which would be pretty dang traumatising.

THANK YOU. These harmless noodles do not deserve such vitriol.

This makes me kinda sad. Golden orb spiders are amazing, giant and beautiful and also not dangerous in the slightest. The way people talk about Australian wildlife always makes me roll my eyes a little.

Well I finally saw it and yeah, my initial hang ups were spot on. Gratuitous feet shots, stomach-churning violence, actors famous for brutally assaulting women irl, all liberally sprinkled into one of the most tedious movies I’ve ever seen. There are some moments of greatness but as a whole it just falls flat. Sally

I refuse to believe this video wasn’t actually made by Jason. It’s too uncanny.

god that episode fucked me up. why, I have half a mind...

I feel so conflicted about Tarantino these days. I used to love his movies and thoroughly enjoy making fun of him as well, but since everything with Weinstein, Polanski, and Uma Thurman revealing how he essentially tortured her I just feel nauseous. Clearly he’s a filmmaker that incites a lot of passion in people and

“Anthropocene feminist fiction” is exactly what I’ve been into lately without being able to articulate it so clearly! Fever Dream is so disturbingly amazing, I’ll definitely track down Mouthful of Birds. In that genre I would also highly recommend Sealed by Naomi Booth. I was filled with deep sickening dread for about

I am stupid in love with Alex Lahey and her show on saturday night was one of the best I’ve ever been to.

Hell yes to Conor Oberst. His music is the ultimate road trip soundtrack. Also the soundtrack to many depressed early morning commutes to school fantasising about going to America just to hit the road and disappear. “Get behind the wheel, stay in front of the storm.”

Noah Czerny of the Raven Cycle books. Maggie Stiefvater makes hooking up with a ghost seem like the most tender, funny and romantic thing ever.

I really wanted to love it but it just left me cold. It was way too long, and despite everyone’s very sparkly chemistry and good comic timing the central conflict just didn’t ring true at all. Like, he needed to learn to be ambitious and get over his fear of failure! And she needed to...stop being such a successful fan

This is exactly why I’m so excited for this movie. The idea of endless sunlight is super creepy to me and even if the movie isn’t great, the lack of typical shadowy horror imagery should be interesting.

Heart do an amazing cover of Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. One of the few covers I like more than the original.

Parasite sounds incredible, I really hope it gets released in Australia sometime soon. Also just wanted to say that Dowd writes such intelligent and beautiful criticism, these reviews are all such a pleasure to read. Thanks for your service!

Pretty sure? One of my best buds is an economist who has worked a little with Netflix, and that’s what he told me as far as I remember.

This is actually intentional on Netflix’s part. Obviously they want to promote their own content first and foremost, but they actually pay for other content on a stream-by-stream basis, so they hide films/shows that are more expensive for them.

Whoa this actually looks amazing. I have major hang ups about the first movie and stuff they changed from the book, but the casting is beyond perfect and the scene with Mrs Kersh looks just as scary as the book. That said, I’m really pissed they seem to be pushing the Bill/Beverley thing which is just...not correct.

Lili Reinhart nailed this imo. The garish pink makeup is perfectly on theme
